According to studies around half of the horses in Europe are overweight and almost 20% of them are even severely obese. These horses are at high risk of developing Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).
The disease is triggered by overeating and lack of exercise and is manifested by so-called insulin dysregulation (often referred to as "diabetes") and a greatly increased risk of developing laminitis.
For EMS-diagnosed or generally overweight horses, a strict diet and a well thought-out training plan are on the daily schedule. During the diet, the horse takes in fewer calories from the feed than the body needs so that its fat reserves are used. Unpleasant side effect: The muscles are also broken down during a diet. In order to prevent this, a protein-rich (amino acids) feeding is particularly important.
ESS Metabolin contains a combination of important, essential amino acids - including the BCAAs isoleucine, leucine and valine. The high proportion of easily digestible proteins supports the maintenance of the muscles during the adapted basic feeding and the more intensive exercise.
