The trace element selenium is involved in a large number of important metabolic processes - especially in muscle and energy metabolism. Its antioxidant characteristics, for example, can protect cells from damage.
A selenium deficiency is detected among other things in a veterinary blood test and manifests itself rather unspecifically, since the trace element is involved in many processes: fatigue, poor performance, lack of fertility and a high susceptibility to infections can indicate an undersupply.
Since selenium is also involved in muscle metabolism, a deficiency can also manifest itself in poor muscle growth, stiffness, tension and cramps. In particularly serious cases, horses (especially foals and young horses) have difficulties with overall muscle coordination.
Another indication can be brittle, dull hair and horn - selenium and the trace element zinc are mutually dependent, which is why a deficiency can also occur at the same time.
ESS Selen Plus provides the horse with high doses of selenium and vitamin E to compensate for an existing deficiency and to protect against further deficits.
The majority of all horses in Europe show a slight to severe selenium deficiency, since the trace element is taken up with the feed and fodder plants and pastures grown in Europe contain very little selenium: The concentration of selenium in the topsoil decreases sharply from northern to southern Europe. An adequate basic supply is therefore rarely guaranteed.
ESS Selen Plus can be used in the event of an existing selenium deficiency as well as fed in small doses as a preventive measure.

Applicable over a period of max. 8 weeks. If necessary, the cure can be repeated after a while. Too much selenium can lead to symptoms of poisoning. The feeding instructions must be observed and nutrient inputs from other feeds must be taken into account.
Supplementary feed is not a substitute for needs-based, varied feeding and performance-based training of the horse.
The specified recommended (daily) dose should not be exceeded without consulting a treating veterinarian.
