The trace element zinc is of central importance for many endogenous processes: it is particularly involved in the growth and health of skin, hair and horn .
Healthy, strong long hair, a shiny coat and stable hooves not only require external care but also a variety of nutrients that the horse absorbs through food. Feeding high-quality roughage and mineral feed can prevent a deficiency - nevertheless, many horses show an undersupply of the vital trace element and need additional support. Triggers can be stressful situations such as intensive training, changing the coat, illnesses, stress or a general tendency to skin problems such as eczema, mud fever and allergies .
A zinc deficiency is detected in a veterinary blood test, among other things but can often be recognized by the horse owner from the usual symptoms: Signs of a zinc deficiency are brittle, poorly growing hoof horn, hair breakage and hair loss, thickened, dry and/or scaly skin and the susceptibility to skin diseases (fungus, mud fever, eczema, etc.).
Zinc is an essential trace element that the horse's body only absorbs through food and cannot produce itself. The storage capacity of zinc in the body is very low and a deficiency can result from a short-term undersupply.

Supplementary feed is not a substitute for needs-based, varied feeding and performance-based training of the horse. The specified recommended (daily) dose should not be exceeded in the long term without consulting a treating veterinarian.
When feeding with preparations with a high calcium content, the feeding times should be as far apart as possible (e.g. in the morning and in the evening). Otherwise, the optimal absorption of zinc can be restricted.
