Stress, restlessness and nervousness: Almost every horse owner will have been confronted with these reactions from their horse. As a rule, the triggers are clearly recognizable: transport, changing stables, new training situations and an unfamiliar environment can put a lot of strain on the horse's nervous system and lead to significant physical stress reactions.
What is less well known is that apparently calm horses can also suffer from severe stress, the triggers of which often remain hidden from humans.
These include for example, dominance problems in an unsuitable group composition, a lack of a sense of security or a fundamental unrest caused by a form of husbandry that does not meet the individual needs of the horse.
Compared to short-term triggers, there is usually no explosive physical reaction to this permanent stress. The horses generally become more skittish, less relaxed in their dealings, develop stress-related illnesses and their performance capacity collapses because they cannot rest and recover.
In extreme cases permanent restlessness can lead to the horse no longer lying down to sleep - resulting in collapses due to a lack of REM sleep.
Herbs have been an integral part of nature-based, traditional medicine for thousands of years. Valerian, lemon balm and hops in particular have established themselves here as natural "sedatives", whose effect has also been proven many times in modern science. In combination, they can not only have a calming and anxiolytic effect, but also have a positive effect on the psyche, promote concentration and support general well-being.

Horses that have been suffering from restlessness for a long time, in which no stress trigger is recognizable or changeable, or who do not respond to magnesium-based preparations, should be particularly emphasized here.
